MITSUBISHI PAKISTAN LIMITED

November 12, 2018

Foundation to 1970s

In 1954 the new Mitsubishi Shoji was founded, and that same year was listed on both the Tokyo and Osaka stock exchanges. In 1967, the company announced its first management plan. In 1968, the company committed to a large project in Brunei to develop LNG (liquefied natural gas). This was its first large-scale investment. Not content with mere trade-based activities, the company began expanding its development and investment-based businesses on a global scale, as evidenced by iron-ore and metallurgical coal projects in Australia and Canada, and salt field business in Mexico. In 1971, the company made “Mitsubishi Corporation” its official English name.

The 1980s

MC needed to construct new systems to generate profits. The company began streamlining its established businesses and developing more efficient operations. In 1986 the company firmly entrenched a new policy, shifting its focus from operating transactions to profits. That same year a new management plan was drawn up. In 1989, MC was listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The 1990s

In 1992, MC announced a new management policy, namely to reinvent the company as a “Sound, Global Enterprise.” MC began placing greater focus on its consolidated operations and increasing the value of its assets. More efforts were made to globalize the company's operations and its people. In 1998, MC established “MC2000” which introduced a “Select & Focus” approach to business, strengthened strategic fields, and emphasized customer-oriented policies. The new plan was instrumental in shoring up the company's foundations and paving the way to a prosperous future.

The 2000s

In 2001, MC introduced “MC2003”, an aggressive new blueprint for growth, involving an expansion of the company's value chains, a strengthening of its profitability, and focused strategies to create new businesses. In 2004, “INNOVATION 2007” was unveiled which sought to establish MC as a “New Industry Innovator,” with an aim to open up a new era and grow hand in hand with society. In 2007, MC newly established the Business Innovation Group and Industrial Finance, Logistics & Development Group. Then, in 2008, MC announced its management plan, “INNOVATION 2009.” In 2009, MC systematically reorganized the Business Innovation Group and established its Corporate Development Section.

The 2010s

In April, 2010, MC reorganized and enhanced this section through the establishment of two new Groups, the Global Environment Business Development Group and Business Service Group. In July 2010, MC announced a new management plan, “Midterm Corporate Strategy 2012,” which sought to strengthen our management platform based on the diversification of business models. A new corporate strategy, “New Strategic Direction – Charting a new path toward sustainable growth” was released in May 2013, and outlined an image of the MC Group circa 2020 in which we reinforce our portfolio by increasing earnings from non-resource businesses. Midterm Corporate Strategy 2018 was released in May 2016.

HAMDARD PHARMA PAKISTAN LIMITED

October 10, 2018

Hamdard is one of those most successful enterprises in South Asia that have trivial origins and very modest beginning, but within a short span of time they achieved the status of big business houses. Established first by an accomplished pharmacist and physician of Tibb-i-Unani, Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed in a tiny shop in Delhi, India in 1906 and then in Karachi, after the creation of Pakistan, by his younger son and a visionary physician, Hakim Mohammed Said in a two–room rented clinic of Tibb-i-Unani (Eastern Medicine), Hamdard made rapid progress, and within a short period its star products, especially Rooh Afza syrup, and effective herbal medicines become popular from end to end in the country and Hamdard became a household name in Pakistan.
Hakim Mohammed Said, was a physician par excellence, philanthropist and man of vision in real sense of the word. He made Hamdard Pakistan not only a biggest manufacturer of herbal products and medicines, but also branched out it to reach the fields of health, education and social welfare. He established a network of Hamdard Clinics (Matabs) across the country, initiated Hamdard Free Mobile Dispensaries, to provide the poor with health facilities at their door steps and set up hospitals of both Eastern and Western Systems of Medicine. He founded schools, colleges and university and constructed a city of education, science and culture, Madinat al-Hikmah laying out his whole life earning on the project. He did all this for the promotion of health and education in the country, because he believed that no nation without good health and quality education could be able to progress in the world. Inheriting from his father a flair for formulation, good clinical judgment and a vocation to serve humanity, he invented and made changes in many tibbi medicines, saw near about 5 million patients in his life and devotedly served the humanity. He was so sincere in serving the humanity and his nation that in 1953 he transformed his well flourished and personal enterprise into an Islamic Waqf and dedicated its income to the welfare of the nation. That’s why Hamdard Laboratories is called a Waqf.

Hamdard as an Industry

Hamdard believes in combining the best of both worlds. It manufactures traditional herbal medicines and products in the most modern plants, using update machinery and techniques.
Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf)’s central structure is based in Pakistan’s industrial hub and main port, Karachi, comprising headquarters and two factories, including a new big factory - Hamdard Industrial Complex (HIC) at Shahra-i-Madinat al-Hikmah. Besides Karachi, two other Hamdard factories are running in Lahore and Peshawar. Four Hamdard Zonal Offices, including Karachi, are working in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. All Hamdard factories are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and instruments, fulfilling the modern day’s requirements of quality and standard. “Quality at all cost” is always Hamdard’s watchword.
Its over 500 herbal preparations (syrups, semi-solids, and solids) are manufactured on the principles of the Greco-Arab system of medicine (also called Unani). Its top-seller is Rooh Afza – a sugar-based beverage with natural flavours and herbal distillates. It has a team of over 1,500 employees throughout the country, including hakims, doctors, scientists, pharmacists, technicians, and other skilled and unskilled personnel.
An organization’s progress – indeed, its very survival – depends on its customers. Hence, their satisfaction is of prime importance. In today’s industry, ISO certification is the criterion of choice. Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Pakistan’s ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 22000:2005 certifications are the proof of its high quality management systems, and its commitment to conformity to the strictest regulatory requirements.
